This cool little Flip Camcorder gadget will have you sending embarrassing videos of your coworkers snogging in the photocopier room behind the collator (what, you never peeked there at lunch?) or catching bullies in action on the playground, cute things your dog is doing or pictures of your friends sleeping off a deep drunk after a party. Loads of fun, many possibilities.

Although a reasonably cheap full-featured video cam is probably only a hunerd-bux more than this gadget, you can't beat the Flip Video for extreme cuteness and portability. Better than your phone-cam, this device is the size of a pack of cigarettes and has everything; microphone, digital zoom and 60 fun-packed minutes of recording time built in.

To use the Flip cam, open box, take out the 2 double-A batteries included, pop them in. Peel off a protective film over the lens and you are ready to go. Press the big red button and aim at your cat stalking the dog's tail, your baby throwing pureed squash at your spouse, or (quietly) behind the collator at the snogging coworkers. When you are done, you can play back your recording.

To send it to permanence and fame on the internet, you can download to PC. A USB connector cleverly flips out of the side and you can mount your camera on the pc and download your vid. Or, if you are in too much of a hurry to edit and save to PC, you can use the provided TV cables and show your friends on your big-screen tv directly from the Flip Camcorder.

If you are serious about video, obviously a camera with more memory and more features (optical zoom) would be better, but if you want to make sure you are video-ready at all times, this little thing is absolutely easy and fits in any pocket. It even has a tripod socket, though I think you'd be more likely to be using this as the Insta-Matic of the Youtube age and just whip it out whenever the urge to film something becomes irresistable. But if you need stability for an hour shoot of your latest Toastmaster's speech, you can put it on a tripod and film yourself easily.

This Flip Ultra Video camera takes makes it super easy to take videos and upload them online. You can just directly upload them into you tube or Amazon (for reviews) no need to even download them on your computer!

The controls are super easy. There is a slide button on the right side, slide it down and the camera fires up with a "ting". Just take a look at the picture of the back of this camcorder above. There are just 3 main buttons. The big red button on the back is for recording. Press it for 2 sec and the camera begins to record. Press it again and it stops recording and tells you how much more footage you can record (remaining minutes out of 60) The plus sign on top of the red button makes it zoom in and the minus sign below makes it zoom out. Once you've stopped recording, the button on the left is to play what you just recorded and the button on the right is to delete it if you don't like it. Press delete button once and a message asks on the screen "Delete video?" Press it again and it deletes the video. How simple is that, just 3 buttons is all it takes!

To upload: You just slide a bar button on the left of the camera and the USB flips out. There are NO driver CDs or anything to install separately as the software is on the Flip camcorder itself and it will detect your system and do the needful on it's own. In fact, unless you want to edit the movies you need not download the flip video mixing software. I did not want to download the videos I shot on my computer as they would eat up my precious disk space. I just logged into you-tube and uploaded them directly from the camcorder. As the camcorder is treated as a USB zipdrive by the computer, it appeared as drive E in the you tube browse. If you really want to edit videos on your computer you can let the camcorder install the software to view/edit files. The flexibility this camcorder gives you is that you can take it to any friends house and it will be compatible with their computer as it's so self contained.

The Flip camcorder comes with a velvet case to protect it and a cable to hook it up to your television so you can view your videos on your TV. The videos I took looked pretty good on my HDTV and it was fun to watch them on the big screen. Even in low light this camcorder did a good job.

I own 3 digital cameras which also shoot video, and one Sony Camcorder that can also do digital video but till date I've not shot and uploaded the videos as it was not very easy. With the digital cameras the audio and video syncing was a problem as were the large files which I had to download on my computer. I use those cameras just for picture taking as the smaller ones don't do very good video and the larger ones are too bulky to carry in my pocket. Flip is small, self contained and so easy to use that you'll want to make many more videos. Since most of my family lives outside of USA, I'm having fun shooting short clips on impulse and uploading them to youtube for everyone to see.

Bottomline, this is the perfect camcorder to make shorter videos to upload online, even a small kid or your grandma can figure it out in seconds!

The Ultra Series Flip Video is perfect for recording up to one hour worth of video. It is perfect for families who want to share videos. I found that the sound quality is ok. The zoom is adequate but not great. And the picture quality is good for its price. The better the lighting you have, the better the quality of the video taken. It even looks good when watched on a TV screen. No sense lugging around a camcorder when you can carry this very light and small video camera that fits in your shirt pocket.

Downloading the videos to a computer is simple and it keeps with some pre-loaded software, which makes it easy for you to edit, email, save, and make photos from the videos. The editing is very basic; it lets you trim some off the front and back of what you recorded. And it is set up to link right into You Tube. I was able to make a video just seconds after installing the batteries.

The Ultra Series Flip Video has the ability to be mounted on a tripod as well as an action mount that can both be bought separately. But the 1-hour of video is all it can hold, which is more than enough for me. It does not have the ability to have the memory upgraded.

Just to summarize this video camera is very light and easy to use. It is so easy to use that no instruction manual is necessary and I am not electronic savvy. It comes with all you need, including TV connector cable, carrying case, wrist strap and even the batteries. This is all you need to share video with your family at a low cost.
